Die ersten Limón-Harlekinkröten ziehen weiter! 🐸💚

The first Limón harlequin toads are moving on! 🐸💚
CC participant Thomas Ackermann has collected the first Limón harlequin toads, Atelopus sp. „Limón“, from Karlsruhe Zoo. The handover with curator and zoo veterinarian Lukas Reese marked the next stage of their journey from Ecuador – and another step in building our conservation breeding network for this scientifically undescribed Atelopus species.
Thomas already has valuable experience: he also keeps and successfully breeds Rio Pescado harlequin toads (Atelopus balios) for CC.
By keeping the species at several locations, we aim to establish a stable backup population outside South America and learn more about the animals and their breeding.
For now, it’s time to settle in! Fingers crossed that Thomas’s new arrivals feel at home and produce offspring too. 💚
