The Karlsruhe Zoological Garden can be accessed via two
entrances: South Ticket Office (main station) and North Ticket Office (Festplatz = fairground).

General information
You can stay in the Karlsruhe Zoological Garden until nightfall. Exceptions are possible for special events. To protect the free-roaming animals, no dogs are allowed in the park-like green areas.

The latest admission to the animal houses is approximately fifteen minutes before closing time. Opening hours may vary in individual cases.

Arrival – Your way to us

The Karlsruhe Zoological Garden is located in the heart of the city between the Festplatz with the congress centre, and the main railway station. This is also where the two main entrance gates are located.

Entrances
North: Am Festplatz 9
South: Beim Bahnhofplatz 4

These addresses can also be entered into navigation devices.

Public transport
You can reach the zoo by various tram lines. Here you should use the stops Kongresszentrum or Hauptbahnhof.
Alternatively, you can use all bus lines that stop at the main station. Local and long-distance trains also all stop at Karlsruhe main station. Here, you are only a few metres away from the zoo.

CAR
Karlsruhe Zoological Garden can be reached:

  • via the BAB 5 from the north and south (Karlsruhe-Durlach or Karlsruhe-Mitte exits)
  • via the BAB 8 from the east (Karlsruhe junction, BAB 5, Karlsruhe Mitte exit)
  • via the Rhine bridge and “Südtangente” (Southern Tangent) (K 9657) from the west (Rhineland-Palatinate and France)

Follow the signs for “Zentrum”, then “Hauptbahnhof” or “Kongresszentrum” with the polar bear logo.

Experience getting to know the animals of Karlsruhe Zoo better. During the commented show feeding sessions for our animals, you can observe many details that leave lasting impressions: Physical characteristics, social interactions between the animals, vocalisations and much more.

    The Red Pandas are fed every day at 9.30 a.m. in the Himalayan mountain world.

    We feed our Magellanic penguins and sea ducks at 15:15. Afterwards, we feed our Humboldt penguins in the neighbouring enclosure.

    The stump crocodiles are fed every Friday at 11 a.m. in the “Exotenhaus”.

    The commented feeding of our california sea lions starts at 11:15 a.m. Afterwards, we feed the seals in the neighbouring enclosure.

    At 1.45 pm there will be a Keeper’s Talk in front of the toucan aviary in the “Exotenhaus”.

    During the summer months, we feed the pelicans at the lake stage at 14:00 p.m.

    The reticulated giraffes in the “Afrikasavanne” are fed at 2.15 pm in the house or outside by the visitors’ stand.

    We feed the chimpanzees at 14:30 p.m. For this, the animal keepers hide treats in the animal enclosure, which our three chimpanzees are allowed to track down.

    Every day at 3.15 pm you can learn interesting facts about different animal species at the Keeper’s Talk in the “Streichelzoo” (petting zoo).
